SHAKE THAT FISH FOR ME!

Eurasian kingfisher shakes off water from its prey.

This is a standard procedure in case of kingfishers:

• Whenever they catch the fish, they land on a solid surface

• They shake off the water from it;

• Hit it by the head several times in order to kill it, sometimes even dropping up in the air to catch from different direction

• Then swallow, or give it away to the partner or the chicks.

This is a complex shot. I had a slight backlit, so water is well visible, but I used strobe as well to have sharp details during a long exposure.

Taken only about 50 miles from my residency…
