RED LACE
Details of the wing of a male red percher (Neurothemis ramburii) dragonfly male in backlit. This is very difficult species to photograph. Common, beautiful, but… dark. Dark wings, dark body and use to perch on the sun in an environment way lighter than he is.rn
I was on assignment for 3 weeks with National Geographic to cover dragonflies in Taiwan. I have seen this species every day, but had no good picture for the last week. Once I pointed one quite far, but was in backlit. Those veins were just glowing! Next day I was better prepared. By knowing this guy’s territory, waited quite early.
Whenever I knew his favorite twig to perch, I could get closer, closer and closer. Finally, I had the shot, which is just a fragment, but represent well his amazing beauty.
