Ultra close shot on the compound eyes of a pale giant horse-fly
(Tabanus bovinus).
As the name suggests, it prefers bovine animals as the source of blood, although it may bite other kind of mammals as well. “Other animals” includes humans as well. It is my personal experience that the bite is quite harmful.
However, their eyes are really fascinating!
I met with this guy in my garden. No need to travel far away for fantastic experience. Travel less, discover your backyard, reduce your ecological footprint!
