EYES OF A DRAGON

Compound eyes of a male scarce chaser (Libellula fulva) dragonfly.

Why do they called dragonflies? I really do not know, but completely agree with the name. They are the feared dragons of insect world. They are amazing flyers and able to catch anything in the air, which fits to their size and diet. Their huge compound eyes – which even touch each other on the top of the head – provide a great help for detecting.

This is one of the most common dragonfly in my area. It is pretty

strange that with natural light conditions you can see their eyes

grey, bluish, greenish or even black. However, with certain strobe

direction, you can uncover its fascinating blue hues!

This dragonfly was found about 10 minutes walk from my house. No need to travel far away for fantastic experience. Travel less, discover your backyard, reduce your ecological footprint!
