INTIMACY
European bee-eater (Merops apiaster) male (on top) jumps on the
female’s back to mate.
She will let him to do so, if she got enough food from him as a “courtship gift”. Count starts again after each mating…
It might sound weird at first, but it is absolutely rational: she is building eggs from those gifts full with #protein!
Only about 10 miles from my residency… No need to travel far away for fantastic experience. Travel less, discover your backyard, reduce your ecological footprint!
